My name is Kadie Walker and I live in Portland Oregon. My husband and I have created a wonderful family here that includes my son, daughter, three dogs, one cat, a Russian tortoise, and a gecko.

I started fusing glass in 2019.  My son and daughter inspired me to do something with the glass I had held onto since my college days. I started fusing glass in a microwave kiln in my kitchen. Then a mishap with a hot pad, catching on fire and leaving a burn mark on my kitchen floor it was requested I moved my working space into my garage.

After I was moved to my garage my husband scored me a kiln from the 70’s from a couple on craigslist. It is not a large kiln but it gave me the space and ability to try different pieces.

I have found so many ways to challenge myself while trying to obtain patience.  I am inspired by seeing how glass can change by not only color, but shape and form once fused.

I have learned that there are so many different things one can create with glass, the different types of glass(non fusible glass can’t actually be fused), that can be used, different ways to fuse the glass, different molds, techniques, and firing schedules.

This has been so fun to do. I have learned to not get upset with myself (most of the time), when a piece did not work out how I had intended it to.

I love asking people what they see in the pieces that I have created. Some see different shapes, faces, animals, emotions, and colors. Some people have even challenged me in creating certain things that I would never have thought was possible with my small kiln.

This continues to inspire me to create more pieces as each piece is unique and has the potential of speaking to its future companion. Thanks to all that have continued to support me and help me get my pieces out there.
